Waterdeep Dragon Heist - Dungeon Master Resources

Since my local group still can't meet in person, I'm re-running Waterdeep Dragon Heist with Roll20 for them. I've run it before using Roll20, and thought I'd put a blog post together with some things I found helpful since I was rounding them up again. Fair warning, minor Waterdeep Dragon Heist spoilers in the post and definite spoilers in the linked material...

DM's Guild Products

    • The Power Score guides are always useful references for running an adventure. You can find a free version at the Power Score RPG blog, but I find the pdf handy and want to support Sean McGovern so he keeps putting these excellent resources together for me to use.

    • A fantastic little puzzle dungeon that you can fit into Chapter 2 of Dragon Heist. I ran it the first time I was running Dragon Heist and it was a blast.

    • A truly useful little supplement with the Faerûn calendar and its odd Tenday weeks plus all the Waterdeep holidays marked. Great help in keeping track of time during the adventure.

    • Offers some alternate options for parts of Dragon Heist, include alternate openings, fireball explosions and vaults.

    • A short 1st level adventure that could serve as a prequel to Waterdeep Dragon Heist if you wanted your party to start the hardcover adventurer at 2nd level. Strongly leaning towards starting my new game out with this, but need to read through it again.

    • Provides a ton of random street encounters and additional location encounters for Waterdeep that fit into Dragon Heist, plus it's available in Print-on-Demand format, so you can get a physical copy.

Non-DM's Guild Products

    • Since the Roll20 start page for the online Waterdeep Dragon Heist is the cover of the book... with all four villain options prominently displayed on it... I made my own splash page as seen in the embedded tweet at the top of the post and this product provided a lot of the graphical elements.

    • I find using a google document to track the game extremely helpful, which is why I made this linked template.

    • This is a fairly succinct and player friendly resource to provide your group with more information about most of the factions they will encounter in Waterdeep Dragon Heist.

    • The Alexandrian remixed Dragon Heist to correct what he saw as flaws, interesting to read and take ideas from even if you don't run the remix.

  • The Riddle Murderer

    • An interesting short side-quest option for Chapter 2 that I stumbled upon and might end up using. Unfortunately split awkwardly between this Reddit post and this Imgur post, but intriguing none the less.

    • If you use nothing else from this list, definitely use Sly Flourish's Session Zero of Waterdeep Dragon Heist article as it will help you set expectations for the game and get your players to make connected characters that will fit the adventure. Also links to Mike Shea's full list of articles about running the 5 chapters of Dragon Heist and his excellent Lazy DM Prep videos where he prepped his Dragon Heist game each that I have been re-visiting through his DM's Deep Dive podcast
