Dusting the cobwebs off this old blog as I prepare to do more RPG writing and development... It's been a while hasn't it?
The Dustballs, Evie (top) and Nadja (bottom), holding down the fort.
I've been busy... Since my last post in 2021 we adopted two cats, the above-pictured Dustballs, after our long-term floof Sasha aka Poof passed, we bought a house and moved, and I got my first very minor, but officially published, like in a book and everything, RPG credit.
Mostly what's kept me too busy to attend to this blog has been running, and, to a lesser extent, playing RPGs. Off the top of my head I've
- Run two separate two year or longer 5th Edition D&D campaigns.
- Run numerous Alien RPG one-shots and short campaigns.
- Run the excellent Barkeep on the Borderlands module using Grizzled Adventurers.
- Run a Brindlewood Bay campaign.
- Run the Tales of the Desolation Shadow of the Demon Lord adventures.
- Run one Fading Suns campaign and played in two others.
- Run a short campaign of Scum and Villainy.
- Run the GI Joe RPG Starter Set.
- Run the Fallout RPG Starter Set.
- Run the Tales from the Loop Starter Set.
- Run Rrypo: Get A Head twice.
- Played in a short Old School Essentials Campaign.
- Run a home-brew 12 person Goblins vs Dwarves LARP for my 40th birthday.
- Run the one shot LARP: Clarity Comes to Dinner from the amazing Suburban Consumption of the Monstrous for my 41st birthday.
- Run two different Shadowdark campaigns.
- Played in a 5th Edition Vampire the Masquerade chronicle, before running my own as well as running and playing several one-shots.
- Run four different 5th Edition Hunter: the Reckoning chronicles.
- Run a 5th Edition Werewolf: the Apocalypse chronicle and played in several one shots.
- Played in several 5th edition D&D campaigns.
- Played in a local ongoing Vampire LARP.
- Started a Land of Eem campaign.
I am certain that I've forgotten at least a few items and I know I haven't included all the one shots or abortive campaigns. My current roster of games is currently 5 every other week games.
- Running Werewolf
- Running Hunter, will be switching to Shadow of the Weird Wizard soon.
- Running Hunter, will be switching to Land of Eem soon.
- Running Shadowdark.
- Playing Fading Suns.
And two once a month games.
- A Land of Eem campaign.
- A 5th edition Vampire the Masquerade chronicle.
That's on top of the usual compliment of social and familial obligations, plus other nerdy but non-RPG things, like board game nights...
A vintage style gumball machine my wife gave me for Xmas so that I could fill it with dice as a display piece in our game room.
So why am I re-animating this blog?
I have been doing some test-reading and play-testing and part of the reason I have been running so much Hunter: the Reckoning is that I hope to write up some modules and other material to publish on the Storyteller Guild. Bringing this blog back to life will provide me a place to promote that work.
But I am not just going to use this blog for crass commercial purposes, I hope to write some reviews and put up more content in general, though the crass commercial stuff is definitely a big part of the return of ye olde blogge. At this point, I have no plans to bring back the podcast or any video content or streaming, as those were more work for me than I feel like they're worth at the moment.
I'm also spinning up an Antagonist Relations Bluesky to replace my old AR twitter which I nuked from orbit once it became clear that the world's shittiest D&D fan was going to turn it into a sewer and not the fun kind that you adventure through, but just one that would make you wade through feces and smell like shit. So if bluesky is your thing, feel free to follow me and interact there.
I have a holiday surprise planned for December 1st and hope to start publishing regular content here again, though that might be sparse through the end of the year with the holidays.
In the meantime, if you're looking for some nerdy content from me, can I suggest a few things from my other blog, hwæt! a blog which has managed to be (somewhat) more regular...
- Acid Blood...Black Goo...Milk Blood...Necromancer Eyes... - Thoughts on some Alien and Alien adjacent properties.
- The Green Knight - Review
- Mittwoch Mixes - Satan & Sadness - The post with the mix discusses being damned to hell as a middle-school Dungeons and Dragons fan.
- Mittwoch Mix - The Swiftest Blade - hwæt! Nerd Mix Volume I
- [a record of reading] PHALANX - A mini-review of an Alien novel
You made it to the end! Have a bonus picture of a cat snuggling with a stuffed wizard.
